Touching? Hockey? Sincere? Affected?

Whatever you think, this quote seems to have gone viral, so I thought I'd look it up to see the context of it.

"This is America, where a white Catholic male Republican judge was murdered on his way to greet a Democratic Jewish woman member of Congress, who was his friend. Her life was saved initially by a 20-year old Mexican-American gay college student, and eventually by a Korean-American combat surgeon, all eulogized by our African American President." - Mark Shields, PBS Newshour

Shields and Brook's on Obama's Tucson Speech on PBS Newshour

Interestingly enough, Mark Shields actually credited the quote to Allen Ginsberg.

Payday in T-minus-three-hours! The pile of envelopes sitting beside my door WILL be mailed! Letters! Fliers! Programs! Tickets! They will come to you at last!

Tonight I swim in futons! I have three. XD

Pounding headache from lack of sleep means... Jen will not go to sleep right away like a sensible person but will instead fart around online.

So much done today! (Well, okay, not really. But it feels like it!)

Tidied the mountain of clean laundry which had swallowed my chair whole over the past month. Found my sewing kit and sewed back on the button that had been patiently waiting for weeks. Vacuumed. Scrubbed out the bathroom. Took a cloth and scrubbed all the dust and grime from panels in my sliding doors. Wiped down the kitchen floor. ♥Clean kitchen.♥

Hung the futon out to air and washed the sheets.

Ran (other people's) errands (but still managed to forget some, AGAIN). Organized and labeled things for mailing once I have money.

Got my inbox down to the usual 40 emails that actually require thought to answer. They shall remain for another 6 months. But I did email my brothers.

Made hot cocoa with some of the last of the stash Gen brought me many moons ago.

Inspected my empty mailbox five or six times.

Started on my taxes. Drove in to the office to print out tax forms. Failed.

But I didn't get any of the three letters written that I meant to. I'm procrastinating on letter-writing. XD

I think I'll do some Patalliro summaries to procrastinate some more, and then go to bed. It feels like it's 2 AM.... Sleepy.

I've decided that it's patently worthless for me to save money for food, as it all gets spent on Takarazuka anyway, so I went out and bought the bookshelf I've been wanting since last August. And finally rigged something else so that the pole in my closet stops falling down. I feel a bit more organized now.

I've been slowly adding all of the books I've read since last July to my Goodreads account. Pretty pathetic collection, actually. :/ I just don't read much anymore.

Hm, what else? Oh. Trying not to get too paranoid about the typical Japanese overreaction to 'flu. All of the schools in Kobe/Hyogo Prefecture are closed now, because there have been cases of the new type. The Revue canceled two weekend events that are pretty traditional. Opening night for Elisabeth is this Friday. But they announced the show's run-time and intermission time yesterday. I'm taking that as a positive sign, and I'm scowling very hard in the direction of the Japanese government. They canceled school, but you know where all the kids are? Hanging out together at karaoke joints. Stupid.

I've developed a Mentos addiction.

The weather is gorgeous, even though it rained just about all of last week. I'm reminded of "April showers bring May flowers", though.... The drive between our main office and my apartment is lined on both sides with blooming bushes and trees in all conceivable shades of white, pink, and purple. But I keep forgetting to walk out in the morning and get a shot before I drive to work. Ota is actually... pretty.

And it cooled down again, but I'll take this slightly cool weather over the coming summer heat any day.

Did a slow amble or two around the city Sports Park yesterday to walk off our raku demachi aches, and then went to see Red Cliff part II. GUH. Yeah, just, guh. I think we made every conceivable noise from "oh" to "ah" to "SWEEEET" to "eeeew". I liked part II better than part I♥ HUGE crush on Takeshi Kaneshiro at the moment♥♥♥

And now I HAVE to make Char watch "Ima Ai ni Yukimasu", because she'll never believe THAT'S Nakamura Shidou now. *evil grin*

Yes, emails & LJ. Golden Week holiday starts in two days! I shall camp out at Char's and curse at her neighbor's internet connection until I get caught up on things, promise!

There. I feel a bit less stressed now (And a little nauseous. XD). The run is over. My Sundays are mine again. <3

I've been watching a very, very awful Korean drama lately. Half-way finished, thank god. I might survive it. It started out with such yummy subtext promise, too.... I still really think a nice moment of Hogae and Damduk throwing themselves at each other would be very good for everyone involved. Too much pent up angst, not enough cheap thrills. Eleven episodes and not a single kiss! Geh. (I can totally see how this series could fit into a 2-hour play, by the way. Nothing happens.) I will wax poetic on Beulgil♥ some other time.

Now I need to go balance my budget for the next two months. Ugh. There isn't enough chocolate in the world for this.

PS - My JLPT results were waiting for me when I got home from work last night. I...  did it! I passed 2-kyuu! 0_o

Okay, running in one door and out the other, and realized I'd better post something now in case I don't get a chance to later. I'm going to be gone for a bit; may have Internet right away, may not. But, well, with it taking me three months to answer emails anyway, I doubt anyone will notice. ;) If the adventure is a success, you'll hear all about it. If not, there will never be mention of it again, and I'll be crying in a corner.

PS - [livejournal.com profile] ceteranna, LOVE YOU BERRY MUCH. Remind me to bribe you for cookies more often. ;)

This just has not been my week, internet-wise. ^^; My family has been continuously tripping over my laptop power cord ever since I got home, and today it ripped in half. So, er, yes. Until the replacement gets here I will only be slightly neurotic about checking email, as opposed to the usual. ... Good thing I picked up all those library books when the power went out....

Day two of no electricity and thank heavens for public libraries.

Actually, it's nostalgic to come back here... I worked at this library when I was in high school in the mid- to late-90s. :D Some of the staff still recognizes me. I'm here with my power strip and all my gadgets plugged in and recharging. My phone was almost dead after doubling for a flashlight all evening long. *grin*

Last night was fun. I bundled up in a couple of layers and burrowed under a mountain of blankets. It reminded me of winters in my apartment in Japan -- no central heat there, either, and I was too stingy to buy a kerosene heater (plus I wasn't too keen on the fumes). I'd wear a hat and scarf and gloves to bed....

Still, I don't think anything will ever beat the ice storm in '91. That one was crazy. We didn't have power for almost two weeks, if I remember right.

Apologies for not getting emails answered right away. I'll try to get through as many as I can before I have to go get my brothers so we can go out somewhere for lunch.

ETA: Yay! Power back!
