So! I've been raiding the BookOffs systematically. I think I might have mentioned this find before? Anyway, I was searching in the Tatebayashi BookOff for Patalliro volumes, and ended up finally finding a paperback copy Habsburg no Houken on the 105 yen shelf. Excellent! Now I have six months to wade through a 1000 page Japanese novel. ..... -_-;

And then, by strange chance I decided to swing by the BookOff on the way back from our Oizumi Branch one more time, and it had sprouted Patalliro volumes that I was missing on the 105 yen shelf! (Although, oops, I shouldn't have bought volume 30 again.) Now I'm only missing seven volumes out of 44. ..... Is this a sane thing? Hey, I've been collecting them for five or six years, it's allowed. Really.

I think I'm crawling back to Patalliro as a protective measure because I need a fannish distraction from Takarazuka. No money, no money.

Oh, excellent. Viva el 105Y shelf.
I wonder what Habsburg no Hôken worths. How does the style look ?
And don't get discouraged by the perspective of reading 1000 pages in six months, I've done it in two/three months back to 2003. And I was 18, so I guess it's okay for you who are an experienced reader. 1000/(6x30) = 5,5 pages a day. できそうもある予定だ!

I've noticed that a lot of Japanese novels seem to be dialogue-heavy, and just glancing through it, this looks similar. I read a little bit at the beginning before I bought it, and it starts with a lecture on religious persecution (makes sense, with the main character being Jewish). Looks pretty interesting, but I don't know if my usual guess-the-words-I-don't-know-from-context will work very well with some parts of it. I know too little of the vocabulary for the period, so this'll probably be a sloooow read for me. ;)

Oh dear, I've fallen behind already. I've been reading Patalliro instead! ;)

I want to read it, but everyone says it is long and hard and complicated, so I am a bit put off.

..... There's a who's-who list at the beginning, which puts it on scale with an epic fantasy series, I guess. But a lot shorter. ;)

I grew up on those, so if my Japanese was better I'd say this wouldn't be difficult, but....
