I am slightly tipsy and although I want to start writing a show review for [livejournal.com profile] ekusudei I don't want to be up all night. So it'll keep.

Instead, I'll just say: "The Small House at Allington" = really good book

I had never heard of Anthony Trollope before I picked it up. Is this an American thing, or am I singular in my ignorance?

It took me forever to read it, but only because it's the kind of book that doesn't demand to be picked up, so I would wait until right before bed. But then putting it down caused actual pain. Only because I didn't want to be a zombie at work could I tear myself away after a chapter or two.

So, good book. More deep and insightful commentary at Goodreads when I am awake.

Sleep now. Too many errands to run tomorrow morning before work.

You are singular.

"The Way We Live Now" by Anthony Trollope is really good too.

I got into it from watching Masterpiece Theatre, so... heh...

It's an American thing - he's almost never taught in American secondary schools, largely because of some of the mixed criticism about him (and the anti-Semitic bits of some of his other books) but he's much more widely known in Commonwealth countries. Come to think, I don't think I ever read him in college either, and I had to take a bunch of required British literature courses. Just not popular in academia over here, I guess.

That's what I thought; at least for our generation. Hm.

I had, and then I lost it again. I wonder why I never linked it? Thanks!
