Has anyone ever heard of mold or mildew growing inside an external DVD burner?

I've smelled something strong twice now, and the first time I thought it was the usual back-up from the kitchen sink (eew), although it smelled very different, but just now I've realized it's connected to having my DVD burner on. It's quite strong. I'm scared to open the case and see what's in there. X/ But I need to keep this thing working; I can't afford another and there's no one else to do TIP distro.

It can happen - it wouldn't be the weirdest thing to get into a drive case, though I'd be surprised if it were damp enough for mold to grow but the machine kept working. Try opening it up and see what's in there; maybe it's just dust or a dead bug or something.

Eeew. Will do. I guess I'll go over to the home center and get one of those air cleaners before I open it up. Just in case....

I know I've mentioned it a couple times in the past and not gotten a response, but I'm willing to take over US distro; someone just needs to let me know so I can take the time to learn how to burn DVDs properly. :)
